Jussi Pöyhönen
Jussi Pöyhönen was born in Uusikaupunki, Finland in 1975. His interest in academic realism took him to Florence, Italy to study classical painting for two years. In 2006 he finished his MFA at the University of Industrial Arts in Helsinki, Finland (Aalto University).
Today he works and lives between Stuart, Florida and Laitila, Finland. Though he has studied European 19th century academic traditions and been influenced by Russian 20th century social realism, he is recently going more toward an impressionistic way of painting, with an emphasis on light, air and colour. Pöyhönen has participated in numerous exhibitions in Europe and USA. Pöyhönen received The Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant in 2010.
