Established in 1997, Ann Long Fine Art has earned the distinction as a leading gallery specializing in classical realist paintings, drawings, and sculpture by contemporary artists. We represent three generations of painters who share an education of Old Master techniques combined with dedicated craftsmanship. Led by the expertise of Charles Cecil, Daniel Graves, Ben Long and Jeffrey Mims, these inspired American and European painters ascribe to a "slow art" methodology in which they train as apprentices in Florence, Italy, work strictly from life, and use authentic recipes and handmade materials. The result is museum-quality still life, portraiture, landscape and figures imbued with timeless elegance and the fresh perspective of living masters.

Since establishment, the gallery has expanded to include an exceptional 20th century modern art arm. Figurative Expressionist Donald Squibb Sutphin (1926 - 2015), was born in Hartford, Connecticut and studied with George Grosz at the Art Students League of New York. He moved to Florence, Italy in 1955, where he lived the rest of his life. Ann Long Fine Art also represents the unique estate of German Expressionist Otto Neumann (1895-1975). Comprised mostly of monotypes, Neumann's figural and abstract hand-pulled linocuts were never editioned. The work reflects conflict and humanity greatly illuminated within the context of Neumann's history of personal tragedy and survival of both world wars. He is collected by several major museums including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Art Institute of Chicago. Closer to home, William Halsey (1915 – 1999) was a pioneer modernist in Charleston, breaking ground in a city known for its picturesque art tradition. His colorful and richly textured abstract paintings were included, in his lifetime, in exhibitions at such noted institutions as the Art Institute of Chicago, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Modern Art, and National Academy of Design. He is represented in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including the High Museum of Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Gibbes Museum of Art, and Greenville County Museum of Art.

It is the goal of Ann Long Fine Art to educate and inform our collectors of the rich history and humanity of the works we represent. Please visit our website and use it as a tool to enjoy our inventory.
